Physical Fitness Level Survey through Push-up Test of Grade VII Students at State Junior High School 20 Malang

Abstract

Physical education plays a crucial role in enhancing students' quality of life and overall health, particularly in terms of physical fitness. This study aimed to assess the physical fitness level of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Malang, focusing on upper body muscular endurance through a one-minute push-up test. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, with data collected from 96 students across three classes. The results revealed that most students were categorized as having "good" (47%) or "excellent" (13%) physical fitness, while the remainder were classified as "fair" (28%) and "poor" (13%). These findings indicate that the majority of students exhibit satisfactory physical performance, supported by structured physical education lessons. The study suggests that the push-up test is an effective tool for assessing upper body endurance and underscores the importance of structured physical activities in promoting students’ fitness. Schools are encouraged to continue developing and implementing physical training programs to enhance students’ endurance and overall physical fitness.
